Dr. Lashan J. Peiris is an Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast and General Surgeon and Assistant Clinical Professor within the Division of Surgery at the University of Alberta. He specializes in the surgical management of breast disease and total breast reconstruction. Dr. Peiris graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine, London and undertook his surgical training in London and throughout the South of England. During this training, he developed a keen interest in managing both benign and malignant disorders of the breast.
In addition to his surgical work, he is a core faculty member of the Canadian Oncoplastic Partnership Workshop, is on the Oncoplastic Committee for the American Society of Breast Surgery and is a reviewer for the Canadian Journal of Surgery. Research interests include the management of high-risk breast neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with node-positive breast cancer, formulating an Oncoplastic Database showing both clinical and patient-reported outcomes, and de-escalation of axillary surgery.
He has written a book chapter on Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery and continues to supervise breast cancer-related clinical and lab-based research.
Dr. Peiris is the Clinical Lead of the Comprehensive Breast Care Program which provides education and navigation to all Edmonton zone and Northern Alberta patients with benign and malignant breast issues.
